Three Miracles in Capernaum - Matthew 8
• Pastor Kevin Schaal • Series: Matthew Through Jewish Eyes
In this sermon, we walk through the very places these events unfolded during Jesus' Galilean ministry—Capernaum, Peter's home, and beyond. These miracles are more than acts of compassion; they carry powerful messages that challenged the Jewish leaders, spoke to the Jewish people, and foreshadowed the inclusion of the Gentiles in God’s Kingdom. ✽ The Healing of the Leper The Centurion’s Servant A respected Gentile soldier displays remarkable humility and faith, believing Jesus could heal his servant with just a word. This miracle sent a shockwave: Gentiles, once considered outsiders, would have equal fellowship in God’s Kingdom through faith—not bloodline. Many would be “reclining at the table” with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, while some sons of the Kingdom would miss out. Peter’s Mother-in-Law A seemingly simple healing of a woman with a fever—yet it carries an important lesson. Jesus heals her privately, without being asked, and she immediately rises to serve. No matter how small or significant your encounter with Jesus seems, salvation always calls us to serve. These three miracles reveal God’s heart: He cares for the outcast, honors faith over heritage, and invites all who are healed to serve. Key Takeaways: ✽ God’s power reaches beyond social and religious boundaries. ✽ Faith, not heritage, grants entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven. ✽ We are saved to serve—no act of service is too small in His Kingdom.
